A better way to help

Hello there!

If you are reading this story, you must be interested in how "PT Gym To Go" got its start.

If you can believe it, this business idea started because I am frugal with my money.

But I'm also generous.

Does that make sense?

I am generous in the sense that I love to give.  More importantly, I like to make people feel seen and important.  I like to give in a way that makes people believe that I actually thought about them and considered their situation and needs.

But I'm frugal too.

I definitely don't want to WASTE my money on something that seems like just a token gift or will end up in the trash next week.  I just don't have enough money for that.  You know?

So when I purchase gifts for people in the hospital or who have just had surgery, I think about what I know they will need in the days and weeks to come.

How do I know what they will need?  Because I've been a physical therapist for 24 years and I have been there in the trenches with them in those first days and weeks after joint replacement, orthopedic repair, spinal fusion, or prolonged illness.

I know, because I asked.  I asked other therapists, I asked patients and clients and family members.  I know because when I did home health therapy, I would walk around looking for something the person already owned that could be used for a stretching strap (belt? scarf? dog leash?)  I know because I got more bags of frozen corn out of people's freezers to use as ice packs than you would probably believe! (good ice packs are harder to find that you might think).  I know because I've suggested to hundreds of outpatients that they find something to use for myofascial rolling at home (rolling pin?  Tennis ball?)

While its fun to go on a scavenger hunt when you are ten at your best friend's sleepover party, trust me when I say that your loved one is going to appreciate having all the things they need for their recovery in one convenient box that YOU thoughtfully sent them.  Most of the items will be things they can use for ongoing wellness!
